The Broadband Activation date for the Killin exchange has moved forward to 31st August 2005.

No firm reason has been given by BT for this action.

We’ll post updates on this board as they are received.

I expect to hear definitively very soon. I am in contact with senior management within BT Scotland. Once I hear anything I will post a message letting everyone know.

Just thought I’d post more on this thread.

I contacted BT on Friday, after the date had changed online, only to be told that if I placed an order for Broadband at that point, I’d have it in by next Friday. I was assured that our local exchange was already enabled.

The only reason I did not jump at the offer was that I just had a new line installed and told to wait 48 hours.

So upon calling back today to see if I could order Broadband, I was told that the exchange RFS date was now 7-Sep-05, 7 days after 31-Aug-05. He was adamant that no matter what anybody else had told me, or what I had seen online, this was the bottom line.

Is it just me or does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing?

All we want is one date for Broadband to ‘come to us’. In the last week I have heard three different dates from one place, BT Customer Services.

I look forward to seeing the results of Mark’s enquiries further up the ladder.

In the meantime, what suppliers are everyone going for?

    Any others?

I have some news, but not definitive.

There are rumours that the exchange has actually been enabled, although this is not the information that BT sales team has. I am wondering if the technology is in place, but the connections i.e. cabling, to the network are not established yet?

I am still waiting for clarification.

I have now raised this as an issue with Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley, who will discuss this with BT on our behalf.

As far as I am concerned, BT are still coming to my house on the 4th to install broadband!!! We’ll see…

    Broadband in Killin

I have spoken with the BT Regional Manager for Scotland and have had confirmation that the date for broadband coming to Killin has slipped. I am adding the following paragraphs into my Computer Corner in the next Killin News.

The dates for Broadband activation have slipped due to delays in traffic management as a result of security measures for the G8 Summit. This means that laying of cables was postponed due to road closures during the G8 period.

This has resulted in many delays to deliver broadband to the local villages – in particular, for Killin, our activation date being now set to be 31st August 2005. However, BT will do its very best to bring this date forward.

Checked out the activation date tonight and it showed 21 September 2005!

Any more news from BT’s head-honcho Mark?

My contacts at BT are keeping quiet. BT reached their target of getting so many Scottish exchanges enabled by the end of July, and they are now concentrating on getting the smaller rural exchanges enabled. My guess is that we are a lower priority now that the July deadline has past.

It has caused me (and others, I guess) some trouble, since I cancelled my second (internet) line in anticipation of broadband coming – so when I am in Killin, my phone line is nearly always tied up whilst I am on the net. I am certain I miss many phone calls

We’ve heard through the grapevine that the activation date has once again changed, this time it has been brought forward to Wed 7-Sep-05.

God willing, the Killin exchange will be Broadband enabled for this date, however, knowing BT’s reputation it only takes a ‘jiffy’ (or even a G-8) to change plans.

    Cheers

    Big G

    Whoops!

I have been in contact with senior management within BT today, and the date for broadband for Killin will slip to the end of OCTOBER.

This is due to problems found during laying of cables.

I will provide further updates as and when I receive more information.

Is there any other exchanges in Scotland having the same problems and is there anything we can do to?

Are we right to be getting increasingly pissed off with this?

anyone fancy opening a book on whether this happens or not?
